This Golden Hour Shoot Reminded Me Why I Love Storytelling

There’s something incredibly special about watching someone pursue a dream they’ve poured years of care, hard work, and passion into. So when an old friend reached out to me sharing their recent business ventures, successes, and dreams, I was so excited to partner with them for a branding shoot. While Stony Lonesome GSD has focused on breeding, training, and caring for German Shepherds, they had been putting their website and branding on the back burner. This year, they dedicated themselves to rebuilding a new website. Naturally, they needed updated, professionally crafted photos that represented their business well.
One of their biggest desires was centered around this key phrase: “Connection between dog and owner.” This focus shaped how I viewed the entire session. I was constantly looking for those moments of connection. These are a few of my favorites.
While I love many of the images that help tell the full story of connection — where every image plays a part — this last one in particular reminded me why I love storytelling through photography so much. It isn’t just the connection between dog and owner, but also the connection between Judy and Brian as a tag-team duo. Their connection as a couple shapes their business. It is the pathway that tells the story of their journey together. And it is the soft golden hour lighting that paints the warmth of their dreams becoming reality.
